About Me

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     liebster2

I am a (mostly) solo traveller, who enjoys near and faraway places, big cities and the middle of nowhere. I am from Senja, an island in the beautiful Arctic Norway, but now I live in Oslo. My goal is let you know some of what is out there to explore, and hopefully inspire you to take the (solo) plunge as well 🙂 I also want to keep this blog fairly short and sweet. That means, I would like this to be a place for you to find enough information to decide whether or not you want to visit the city, sight, restaurant etc. in question, but still leave some for you to experience once you’re there. Don’t want you to feel like you’ve seen it all already, and take away the pleasure of discovering it yourself 🙂 However, if you need more input on places I’ve been, leave a comment, and I’ll help you out as much as I can. Thanks so much for stopping by, and travel lots and safe!

To get to know me a bit more…
I was given the Liebster Award, and here are some answers to the questions I was asked in that regard:

What made you decide to blog about travel?
Travelling is one of my great loves. That’s when I feel alive.

What sort of things do you do to prepare for your next travel destination?
I plan ahead as much as possible, so I don’t have to spend my time on the road looking for hotels, plane tickets, etc. I can just enjoy the ride.

How do you choose your next travel destination? Is it a well thought-out decision, or are you the kind of traveler that just picks a place randomly?
The destinations these past years have been decided long in advance, as I wanted to visit all regions of the world. Now that that is accomplished, I have no idea what I’ll be doing next. Whatever I feel like, I guess.

What are the 3 things you MUST have in your travel bag?
Camera, phone, credit card, passport. That’s four things 🙂

What is one of your top travel memories?
Hiking the Wudang Shan in China.

Multiple choice: I usually stay at: (a) hostel, (b) Bed & Breakfast, (c) airbnb, or (d) hotel?
Whatever fits my budget, and looks clean and safe. Location is also important.

Travel binging – yes or no? Would you rather see a ton of cities in one trip, or do you prefer to stay longer in one place and move around less?
A mix. See as much as I can in one trip, but not rush it.

List 3 books (or movies) that have inspired you to travel.
Geography class at school, and my atlas – old school 🙂

Do you prefer to travel solo, with a partner, or in groups?
After travelling solo in the past few years, this is what I now prefer.

What advice would you give someone who has never left their own country, but wants to travel?
Go! Bring your common sense, and you’ll be fine.

  1. Glad I stumbled upon your blog in Twitter. I think I’m gonna learn a lot from your travels. Just starting to take travel seriously, taking in one culture at a time and not really focusing on tourist trap…

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! Means a lot. I try to keep it short and simple, so that you can get a taste, but go experience it yourself. And hopefully help out a bit in planning. Not a photographer, but I try my very best 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! You have definitely written a lot more on your blog than what I did the first months of my blogging adventure, only starting last year 🙂 You also got to do a lot more than me on your trip to Capri – I was there for work – so I need, and want, to go back some day! Have a great summer!

  5. Thanks for visiting my (very new) blog.
I have only decided very recently to start and you have given me a confidence boost :). I really enjoyed reading your posts; great to see you’ve been as far as New Zealand. Sorry about your foggy day in Rotorua – I’d like to say its not always like that but the native name Aotearoa means literally “the land of the long white cloud”…

Looking forward to more of your posts! If you need any tips for Berlin let me know ;).

    Thanks again

    • Thank YOU for stopping by my, also fairly new, blog! Started this “adventure” last fall as an experiment, but I had so much fun with it (and met so many like-minded people), so I decided to do more out of it than planned. And thank you for your kind words! I’ll be an inspiration any time 🙂 I visited Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands last summer, and I had a blast! Just wish it wasn’t that far away 🙂 I had a great time in Rotorua (more posts to come, when I have time…). As it was in the middle of winter, it was super quiet, and perfect for me 🙂 Enjoy Berlin! Went there many years ago. Not my favorite European city, but maybe I didn’t know what to look for 🙂 Travel safe!

  6. Hello from Türkiye… just wanted to say “thank you”, I appreciate your recent ‘follow’, knowing how many interesting and entertaining blogs there are out there.

Blogging since June 2013, my little corner of the world tries to offer an eclectic smattering of posts, from basic amateur photography, to sharing my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day-to-day happenings here on our fruit farm in southern Turkey. I also throw in a few of my observations on life and lighter-hearted stuff for good measure.

You are more than welcome to have a look around, stay a while and have a trawl through my collection. There are plenty of categories within the drop-down menus to help in said digging process.

Hope you have a great day…

  7. Your blog is truly and absolutely inspiring! As a little girl, I knew I wanted to travel and never knew how I was going to do it but I always told my self “one day”. Reading your blog and books like the female nomad has opened my eyes and heart of my true passion. I would only hope to soar my dreams in traveling as you are living them! I look forward to reading more of your travels!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! From a newbie blogger as well 🙂 Just started this blog in Sept last year, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. As a young teen I was also very curious about foreign countries and cultures. Had tons of penpals (waaay before e-mails 😉 ). I’ve been travelling more or less solo for about 15 years now, and I don’t regret going about it all alone. Now I actually prefer it… Just apply common sense 🙂 Maybe I’ll see you in Norway some day. Off on your journeys, and safe travels!

  8. Thanks for visiting my blog! I love your pictures of Senja, it looks like a beautiful and peaceful place. I also love your food pictures and I think we might share some of the same tastes (Pizza? Ramen? Delicious.) Looking forward to reading your posts!

    • Thanks for stopping by my place as well! Senja is beautiful! As an adult you learn to appreciate places like this, not so much as an young adult, who just wants to head for the big city bright lights 🙂 I love (good) food 😀 Happy Easter!

    • Like you, I enjoy travelling solo, did it regularly all over the world, with SLR camera, tape recorder & diary in hand. From the 1970’s to 1990s. Now over 80 and live the memory agin through my blog, etc. Was in Wellington NZ in 1975 with my 2 teenage sons. Loved it, looks different now. Enjoyed your blogs.

      • Took me a while to realise travelling by myself was not as lonely as I thought it was going to be. Now I actually prefer to head out on my own. I get to experience a lot more. Just wish I had gotten around to it earlier. I bet you had an amazing time on the road! Yes, I’ve been thinking it will be great memories in the future. Thanks for your kind words! Have a great summer!
