Kuwait City Break

I’ll be the first to admit Kuwait wasn’t on my traveling destination radar, but when a friend moved there for work I wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass. I had no idea what to expect, but from what I saw I really liked it. Warm spring weather in the beginning of January. Tax free shopping. A nice walk along the corniche, which stretches for 10 km, with the stunning Kuwait Towers on one end – I did not go up to the observation deck. Two other remarkable sights. A couple of unusual formed mosques. The green and white Fatima Mosque, and the pyramid-shaped Shaikh Nasser al-Sabah Mosque. The latter one I sadly never got to see up close. And then there is the chill Marina Crescent, a harbor area with cafes and restaurants, and a relaxing vibe. When it comes to food you won’t be out of options. I enjoyed every meal I had, whether is was eating out or take-away. That is saying something! Mainly international fare tough. And I both kicked off and wrapped up my trip with a visit to the spa 🙂

I flew from Oslo via Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. It was quite “weird” to look at the in-flight map and see that you’re heading for all these places mentioned on TV news coverages from past wars. Upon arrival my friend had arranged a meet and assist service, which was far from necessary, but a nice luxury treatment. Traveling around town was mainly done in my friend’s driver’s car. Luxury yet again 🙂

  1. Really interesting to get an insight into Kuwait and what a great opportunity to see a country which isn’t exactly on the tourist trail. Fantastic to have someone show you around. Thanks for linking #citytripping
